Such a dramatic collapse will take place in the population of Italy. By the end of this century, Italy’s population will have shrunk from 61 million to 28 million. That is less than half.

There are a total of 23 such countries, whose populations will drop to less than half. The list also includes countries like Spain, Portugal, Thailand, and South Korea.

China is now the most populous country in the world. After four years, their population will reach a maximum of 140 crore. But then China’s population will begin to decline. By 2100, China’s population will have shrunk to 632 million. And India will replace China as the most populous country in the world. In 2017, the number of children under the age of 5 will be 68 crore and 10 lakh, while in 2100 it will be 40 crore and 10 lakh. In 2017, when the number of people over the age of 80 was 14 crore and 10 lakh, in 2100 it will stand at 86 crore and 60 lakh.

According to the study, Nigeria will be the second largest country in the world in terms of population. Their population will increase to 79 crore and 10 lakh.

Problems Caused

You might think that population reduction would be excellent for the world’s environment. Such a change will reduce the rate of carbon emissions. Destructive activities like agriculture will be stopped by deforestation. That may be true, but it will also reverse the whole age structure of the population.

But the whole age structure of the population will change as a result. Older people will outnumber younger ones. And because of these changes, the society will face various negative consequences. There will be a lack of working manpower in society then. Decreasing the rate of youth will lead to giant changes in the age structure. As a result, the world economy will collapse.

Solve the Population Problem

Some countries are taking various measures to increase the population. These include extending maternity and paternity leave, free childcare, financial incentives, and increased workplace rights. But there is no clear solution to this problem yet.

Sweden has made several attempts to increase their birth rate from 1.7 to 1.9. But many other countries are struggling to increase the birth rate despite many efforts. The birth rate in Singapore is still stuck at 1.3.

Professor Murray said, “Many people laugh at this situation. But they can’t really imagine that this is going to happen. They think women may have more children. But if you do not find a solution, then mankind will be extinct. But that is still a matter of centuries away.”

Ibrahim Abubakar, a professor at University College London, says that if even half of these predictions are correct, then immigration will become vital for all countries and should not be considered an alternative.
